FIRST SESSION OF THE COORDINATION COMMITTEE OF THE EU-CENTRAL ASIA WORKING GROUP ON ENVIRONMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE WAS HELD

On June 15, 2020, the first session of the Coordination Committee of the EU-Central Asia Working Group on Environment and Climate Change (WGECC) of the WECOOP project took place in the online format.

The executives of the units of the European Commission Directorate-General for Environment, representatives of the Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea Protection of Italy, EU Delegation to Kazakhstan, as well as the senior specialists on the issues of nature protection and climate change of the Central Asian countries participated to the work of the session. 

From the Turkmen side, the first session was attended by the specialists of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection, State Committee for Water Resources and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the session, the results of the work done after the 9th meeting of the WGECC, implementation process of the WGECC Working Programme, as well as the WECOOP project’s Draft Programme taking into consideration the current crisis situation were considered.  Also, the priority spheres of action of the 10th WGECC session planned for the spring of 2021 in Almaty were discussed. 

Upon the results of the session, the date and agenda of the face-to-face meeting of the EU-Central Asia Working Group on Environment and Climate Change were agreed.
