MEETING OF INTERGOVERNMENTAL TURKMEN-AZERBAIJANI COMMISSION FOR ECONOMIC COOPERATION WAS HELD IN ASHGABAT

On September 13, 2019, the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijan Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Ashgabat.

The meeting of the Commission was headed from the Turkmen side by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan P. Agamuradov, from the Azerbaijani side – by First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyubov.

At the beginning of the meeting, the parties noted with satisfaction the high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, based on the principles of equality, good neighborliness and mutual respect.

An exchange of views took place regarding the implementation of the agreements reached during the previous meeting of the Commission. The sides considered proposals on deepening interaction between the respective ministries and departments of the two countries, as well as on developing partnerships between business circles.

The parties considered the possibility of increasing trade and creating joint ventures of various profiles, for example, the opening of the Trading House of Turkmenistan in Baku and the Trading House of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Ashgabat. The issue of creating a Turkmen-Azerbaijan business council was discussed.

The sides spoke about the need to organize mutual visits at various levels to exchange best practices, including in the field of high technology, engineering. The parties also expressed interest in establishing a car-ferry and railway-ferry service between the two countries, as well as intensifying work for transport operations through the airports of the two countries.

During the meeting, issues of a cultural and humanitarian nature were also discussed. The need to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of science, education, sports and tourism was noted.

The parties agreed to hold the next sixth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijan Commission for Economic Cooperation in 2020 in Baku.
