Turkmenistan and Iran discussed expanding cooperation in the railway sector
From September 6 to 8, 2025, a working visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Minister of Railway Transport M. Akmammedov to the Islamic Republic of Iran took place.
During the visit, meetings were held with the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran F. Sadeg and the Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Head of the Railway Department J. Zakeri. The delegation also got acquainted with the work of the wagon control center and the potential of the dry port "Aprin", located in Tehran.
During the meetings, issues related to the intensification of trade and economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran in the railway sector were discussed.
In particular, relevant proposals were made to increase the turnover of transit cargo. In this regard, the issues of activating the China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway and the international corridor of the "Ashgabat Agreement" (Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Oman) were discussed.
The parties agreed to expand cooperation in the railway system to increase trade turnover between the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), as well as to ensure the transportation of goods and the effective use of the Armenia-Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan transit and transport corridor.
In addition, the parties visited the Akyayla-Incheburun railway crossing and familiarized themselves with the progress of work carried out there.
