Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Holy See presented credentials

On December 7, 2024, a solemn ceremony of presenting credentials took place at St. Peter’s Basilica, where the new Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Holy See Vepa Hajiyev presented his credentials.

The ceremony began with an address by Pope Francis, who emphasized the key role of diplomacy in addressing global challenges. The Pope highlighted the Holy See’s commitment to the principle of “positive neutrality” and urged to upkeep hope and creative approach to solving problems.

During a brief conversation with the Pope, Ambassador Vepa Hajiyev conveyed greetings and best wishes from the National Leader of Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The similarity of both countries’ approaches to foreign policy based on the principle of neutrality was noted.

Pope Francis expressed his gratitude for the kind words and extended his best wishes to the leadership and people of Turkmenistan.

Later on the same day, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan met with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin. During the talks, the prospects for cooperation in political, cultural, and humanitarian spheres were discussed.
